He’s releasing the most recent Twilight Singers show in NYC, but this is how they’re doing it:
Live In New York will be released digitally worldwide. However, a limited edition deluxe double CD will be made available directly thru the band’s website beginning today.www.thetwilightsingers.com.
This deluxe edition will feature the entire unedited New York performance and will only be available for purchase prior to November 15th. This CD will not be available in stores. Fans who purchase the deluxe CD edition will immediately receive a track: “Teenage Wristband” via email along with receiving the full album digitally on the street date.
This covers:
- The older demo of fans who want a physical product
- The wacko completists who want the entire thing
- The collectors who want a special edition
- The people who dig the music but for whom physical product is irrelevant
It also keeps production costs manageable because they’re timeboxing the deluxe edition. You buy it by 11/15 or you don’t get it. It also doesn’t penalize fans for pre-ordering by making them wait or making them pay twice by giving everyone the record on the street date.
The only thing I find curious is that there is no video component, given that they went to a lot of trouble to set it and shoot it professionally.
This scenario is pretty damn near perfect. Now, please do the same thing for the San Francisco Blackberry Belle show.
