The full footage of the New York Dolls from Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert. This footage is unbelievable.
Note the black and white footage at the beginning, which was played at the intro of one of their shows at the Academy of Music. You see them getting into the car in what was then the real Meatpacking District, and driving down 14th Street before pulling up under the Academy’s marquee. According to the friend who told me about it (because I certainly wasn’t old enough to be seeing the Dolls at the Academy of Music, more’s the pity), after the movie showed the Dolls running into the theater, the movie stopped and a spotlight hit the Dolls running down the aisle, dressed in gangster gear like in the movie, and they jumped onstage and started playing.
